Canoe, Shoe and Bicycle Race

Spring has finally come to the Northland and that means our attention can now turn to that great Summer Event, the annual Cotton Canoe, Shoe, and Bicycle Race which is part of the Fiddle Contest in August. "Now is the Time" to begin to make good on those vows from last summer when we all said we would do the race with our kids or mates or friends.
The roads have dried up, the river is going down nicely, and the bicycles are just begging to have their tires aired and pumped up. So, what are you waiting for? Now is the Hour!
There are always those who say, "Oh, I couldn't run two miles, let alone ride a bike." Well, you don't have to start all at once. Do a little walking with a little jogging to get those limbs exercised and moving again. The back roads are great places to jog where your neighbors won't see you. Midnight is always a good time to get out. Just don't get too far away so that someone has to haul you back home. Little by little you will get your body (and mind) fit and able to complete the race. Then you can scratch the famous CSS&B Race off your Bucket List. See you in August.
This years race will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the usual location 1/2 mile east of Cotton. Racers will provide their own canoe, running shoes, and bicycles. A life vest will be required in the canoe, and a helmet for the bicycle leg of the race. Bikers should ride WITH traffic, that is on the right side of the road.
In the past people have lamented that they didn’t realize the race was coming so soon. Now is the time to prepare by doing some paddling, jogging, and getting those bike tires pumped up and the chain oiled. Come out and enjoy the great Whiteface River, work up a sweat, then enjoy the Fiddle Festival and relax at the finals of the Fiddle Contest Saturday evening.
We’ll look for you!!
Sign up on the day of the race. There are age division trophy awards: 1st, 2nd 3rd in under 18 years of age; 1st, 2nd 3rd in 18-35; 1st, 2nd 3rd in 35+ years of age. Teams can also be mixed.
